Agree with you on the manual controls. I've had 3 cars with automatic climate control systems, and my 9-5 is the worst of the lot. On cold days I have to set the temp to 74 to get the car warm, and after it is fully warm have to set it at 66 or I will roast. My old 9000 had an OK auto ACC system (it did not break in 220k miles), but the best of the lot was found on my 1991 Taurus SHO, it was true to its setting and kept the temp inside constant.
If a mfg cannot make a highly reliable and accurate auto ACC system, I'd definately prefer the basic manual controls.
