I'm not clear on what you are saying by rear door.
Which light IS working? If you have an estate (wagon), is it only the light in the tailgate working, or are you talking about the rear passenger doors that are working? IIRC, the tailgate / boot light is on a separate switch than the individual passenger doors. So it works independently of opening a cabin door.
First thing I'd check is if you get the lights by turning on the cabin lights from the overhead switch. Maybe you have the switch "off" instead of "door". Do the door (all 4)lights work in on position?
If not, since both front door lights aren't working, (assuming both bulbs aren't out at the same time), and guessing that you were talking about the tailgate working, are the lights in the rear passenger doors working? If not, when you open any door, do you get the corresponding indicator in the dash telling you that the door is open?
If so, the door switches are probably working, and the bulbs are probably out.
But check the overhead and the other door lamps before going crazy! If all 4 are out, you may have a bad fuse, too.
