sliding load floor doesn't seem to be "locking" open

I hardly ever use the thing...but the last few times I have tried, it wouldn't lock in the extended position....
I've done all the RTFMing I can do, and messing around with it. It sometimes catches in that position when I really pull it out hard, but otherwise doesn't.
any tips or tricks I'm missing (I know, I should have it figured out after 4 1/2 years :) )
