I'm having the same problem with my '99 wagon w/ 140k. To get it into reverse, I have to shift through the gear quickly (1,2,3,4,5, with out letting up on the clutch) and then quickly dropping into reverse from fifth, or put the car in fifth and let up on the clutch slightly and then dropping it quickly into reverse. One of those methods usually works.
I've been told to check the clutch thickness and see if it's worn as that might cause the problem (counter-intuitive to me, but I'll check) and/or change the transmission fluid to the "new" Saab synthetic fluid that I've read has helped some of the members here. Look for "9-3 9-5 Trans Update Kit" or "9-3 9-5 New Manual Trans Oil" in the search bar.
Lacking a large warm garage, I'm putting this service off till spring. I'd appreciate it if you could let me know what fixes your problem. Thanks
