Now you have me thinking, specifically about failure rates. Saab reduced the torque for the 4-speed auto box on the Aero. The question is, what failure rate were they trying to achieve with the torque reduction. I suspect it was less than 1%, as I don't recall many conversations on this board of auto transmission failures. The next question is: what would the failure rate be if you raised the torque 20% over the 243 ft-lb of the auto Aero. (Which is approximately what you've accomplished with a Stage 2 upgrade on a 99 9-5 lpt.) Wild guess; maybe 10 to 15%. Most failures coming of course with those who are on the go pedal most of the time. The person who tromps on it only occasionally probably wouldn't experience any problems at all.

P. S. I once worked with a person who had previously worked with a European manufacturer which was designing a 4 wheel drive transfer case for an American auto co. They realized well through the process that with off road use (the was before the SUV craze so off road use was likely), 5% would fail. So they were starting to upgrade the design when the American Cos. bean counters came along and told them to continue with the existing design because the cost of the warranty claims would be lower than the cost of the redesign. Gives you a warm feeling about American vehicles doesn't it.
