Yep, sounds like you did it right. I had a certified policeman install mine. He said the front part lifting/moving is nothing to be concerned about.
LATCH doesn't make a safer seat, it just makes it easier for the average person to install it properly. Did you get a rubber mat? This protects the leather as well as reduce any side to side movement.
What kind of seat did you buy?
