Bumper to bumper vs named component... Posted by Mike Lynch [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Ignition Cassette failure(Not covered by Wynn's Serv.?), Eric Boysen, Thu, 11 Mar 2004 13:49:42 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Does your Wynn's extended warranty have a list of things that are covered? The old saying goes "What's on the list never fails". Does the list mention ignition coils? I think you've got a good case to appeal. Plug wires, caps, rotors and stuff like that are wear items, but an ignition coil, which is what the DI cassette is, might be on the list. It's an ignition module too. Take 'em to task.
Next time you are anyone else purchases an extended warranty product get a "bumper to bumper" style instead of a named component. Named component warranties have lists and sub lists of groups of parts that are covered. Silver covers three groups, gold covers five groups and platinum covers ten groups and so on. The lists looks very complete, but the old saying still applies.
A "bumper to bumper" warranty has a short list of exclusions, wear items, belts, hoses, batteries, adjustments, brake pads, etc., and in the case of the General Motors Protection Plan finishes up by saying "and everything else is covered". Now a warranty company can still be nit-picky, but that again is why I recommend GMPP, they aren't.
