Door Mirror - Wind Noise fix and ass. grief

I have found the cure for my wind noise (see previous post). It is the door mirror but NOT (just) the top edge of the black plastic plate.
The door mirror is mounted on a rubber gasket. The problem is the seal between this gasket and the door. I masked all around the edges of the rubber gasket with plastic tape and the noise went away. Check out the front edge of the seal at the front of the door. Even with the fixing screw inside the door fully tight I could lift the gasket. And suspiciously there was dust behind it.
I have put silicone sealant all way round the passenger door mirror gasket and the passenger really has it quiet now. Why don't I? Because for the last 8 months the Saab garages (2 so far) have been replacing every part in the mirror to try and get the memory to work!!!*&%$! It looks like the car was made with the wrong motor unit so the usual "it must be that, replace it" hasn't worked.
And another thing. Look at the body color mirror cover at the corner nearest the door. The cover has a pillar (on the inside of the cover) into which a hook from the black plastic mirror surround should go. This pillar is on a thin bit of plastic and has broken on mine. A survey of 5 cars for sale at the Saab Dealer found 2 with this pillar broken! Bad Design! Check yours. If the painted cover fits tightly against the black surround you're OK. If not you may be able to pull the front cover and see the hook. If so the pillar is broken.
I know you Saab guys like a long read from time to time.
