tires, has never driven real snow tires. Snow tires give you a confidence on the road that little else will. It's not a cheap solution but it is surely the best. Economy can be gained by having a second set of wheels. No magic involved; your summer sneakers last longer because you are not driving them part of the year. It doesn't change the number of miles they last, only the time.
BTW, Nokian now makes a superb year-round tire, the WR. It's a flip on the standard philosophy of a summer tire that can do winter work. It's a true winter tire (with the snowflake!) that has a tread durable enough to survive the summer heat. A friend is trying them and is delighted after 1 full year. eTire has them at the best price.
