What trany?
You can't compare your city driving MPGs to anything, too many variables.
?
tires soft
roof rack/bars
dragging brakes
not using top gear on highway
wrong plugs or plugs needing to be changed/gapped -pull them and inspect-
dirty injectors
dirty combustion chambers (clean both with 20 ounce bottle of Techron Concentrate)
head or side winds
cold engine -bad thermostat- temp indicator should be at 9'oclock position
some engine oils will provide better MPGs, use M1 0W40
high ethanol fuels (10%) will hurt MPGs by 5-6%
low octane VS high octane
To get a reference MPG reading, clear the SID when at speed with a well warmed up engine with low winds. This is not an overall reading, but it is the only thing that is repeatable and comparable to readings that others get. This method eliminates the 'cost' of warming up a cold engine.
The T7 gets better MPGs than the T5 and the T7 gets consistantly good MPGs in very cold or very hot weather. The T5 will loose some MPGs in extreme temperatures.
I get 31 MPG st 70-75 mph on a long run. I think the 5spd gear box needs to warm up to get better figures and that takes a while.
