The 220hp four is one powerful machine. The asymetrical V6 was capped out at 200hp without major revision. The 220hp four was laying on the shelf ready to go. And better fuel economy too. With Acura TL's and G35's to compete against more power is important.
The four improves the handling. Not that a V6 handles poorly, but the lighter four is an improvement.
As a Saab salesperson, I'm not missing explaining the difference between the V6 and the fours. And I appreciate more horsepower, bigger brakes and more flexible options for the same price.
