I know some people on this board will say "modern turbos don't need that", but since my first '82 Saab turbo, I've always let the car warm up for about 30 seconds when starting it, and always let it idle for a few seconds before shutting it off. Also, I never gun the engine after starting off, but move off with a moderate throttle for the first few minutes. I believe these measures help the lubrication of the turbo and keeps the seals tight.
So far, so good. 98K on my '99 9-5. My '84 900 went 268K miles on the original (primitive) turbo (no water cooling), and my '82 900 went 175K before a -20degree cold day did that primitive turbo in.
(BTW, my wife's Volvo 940T wagon is on the original turbo at 134K miles).
So I think having two turbos replaced is pretty abnormal, and that Ian's suggestion about the PCV valve fix is worth considering.
