I’m not sure why brushes wearing out so fast, but it happened. The same is happening with friend of mine – again 99-model year. May be it was only for first production year of 9-5 and then they improved for subsequent years, but I would check brushes on later years anyway if suspect.
I also have checked ACC Control unit (just behind accelerator pedal, on the right hand side) and, unlike in 9000 it looks solid and doesn’t show signs of high running temperature.
I didn’t do anything to the bearings; they seemed to be ok, however I did some general clean up of dust by spraying electric circuit board cleaner to the motor’s rotor (spinning part). Generally, beside the brushes, the motor is build reliable and very easy to repair. Made by Siemens, although whole thing (ACC) is Valeo product.
