Sounds like something is slightly out of spec or a component is marginally failing, etc. Until it sets a code in the system memory it will be tough to diagnose. Chances are that it will get bad enough to set a code at some point and then the dealer can deal with it.
The Check Engine Light responds to issues related to the emissions system. As long as you've got oil in the engine, coolant in the radiator, the appropriate lubricant in the tranny, and the car is running OK, you won't do any damage to anything by driving with the CEL on.
