Replace 6x9s with 2-way speakers ?

I have a 1999 9-5 SE with the Prestige audio system with two 6x9 speakers in the back package shelf. As one of these speakers is shot, am about to replace both. (As noted before here, one Saab OEM 6x9 speaker is $180, and dealer quoted $85 to install!) An option suggeted by local sound shop is to put in 2-way speakers in the deck, with the 6x9 connected to the subwoofer amp as normal, and the smaller deck speaker connected to the rear door input. (The rear door has a 2 1/2" speaker that does not produce much output.) Was advised that the power draw of the additional small speakers on the package shelf would not be a problem. The new 2-way speakers have a crossover that allows wiring the smaller speaker separately from the 6x9. Adding a crossover makes these speakers more expensive, but current sale prices would bring the cost to purchase the 2-way speakers (and to install, in effect, 4 speakers) down to less than the OEM price to buy and install one 6x9. The OEM speakers are 2-ohm, but have not found anything that would match - 4 ohm is the closest. SO.... has anybody tried this setup? Thanks, in advance, for your comments. JT
