Greetings from this newcomer in Western NY. Just started looking for a new wagon for our family. Local indie shop sells & repairs Saabs now for over 30 years, so they were my first stop. Don't know if this is beginners luck or what, so read on and tell me what you think of this Tale of Two Saabs.

This shop buys at Mannheim auction and takes local trades, always has a dozen or so Saabs on the lot. The following Wagons were from auction, so no service records other than what I might get from dealer running the VIN (doing that is still TBD).

Compare:
Wag(1) 1999 9-5 SE V6 89K, off lease from NYC area. Original asking price $11K, dropped to $10,600, then $9999 last night after I haggled and pointed out some interior cosmetic problems.

Wag(2): 2000 9-5 SE V6 59K, leased one owner in Phila. area. Orig. asking $16,900, dropped to $16,200.

Both have been on sale for several weeks now. Both got full "once-over" by the shop, which has a valued reputation for pre-sale checks and for honestly selling (& servicing) quality Saabs. Both have very clean exterior. Wag1 has had belts & SID R/R, DI checked=OK. Wag1 interior is in VG (but not super) shape (has one underseat carpet stain and other nicks & residue indicating it was not kept by a "not in my car!" enthusiast); Wag2 has the cleaner interior and of course lower miles.

Wag1 seems to be a very good deal considering its book value is around 14K; I see a few hi-mile '99 Wagons selling online around $12K to 13K. Wag2 certainly would be nice to own but gee the extra $6K would pay for a lot of future service costs on Wag1.

But, I worry about Wag1 being a '99 as I see comments on this BB about more problems from 99's (higher maintenance). We're prior Subaru owners but in years B.C. (before children) I was a sports car guy, so I know the old Saabs. In recent years, while finally able to earn a good salary, I've eyed the better Saabs, Bimmers, etc but couldn't afford one. By habit I take care of cars but since marriage I have left the wrenching to a good shop. (Not like the old days on the Opel, TR, MG.. and friend's Lotus, Saab, Bimmer, etc).

== SO, is the '99 Wagon (Wag1) a good deal? Or would you choose Wag2 ...or more shopping around? ==

Comments, questions, warnings, are greatly appreciated!

PS, If you think Wag1 is the choice, should I haggle further or grab it fast?

THANKS, EVERYONE...
