Oil Sending Unit

While pulling out my starter on my '99 9-5 for some maintenance of a sticking solenoid, I finally got a good look at the oil sending unit screwed into the backside of the block. Judging from the fan shaped oil leak pattern from this device, I can only hope this is the root cause of my engine oil leak and annoying oil burn off on the catalytic converter. I'm ordering a new sending unit right now, but would appreciate some advice. I see that the unit has a soldered on lead wire to a wiring connector plug previously tie wrapped to my starter. As such, I assume I can't use a regular socket to remove the unit, as the wire is permanently attached. I hate to rely on an open end wrench to get the new unit in, but what should I do?? Also, I couldn't decide whether the plastic cap through which the wire goes to the soldered tab had broken off and slid up the wire lead, or thats just how it is. Do these things leak through the internal plastic body of the unit or past the screw threads into the block and/or a defective copper washer? Any info. would be appreciated,
Thanx...
