$2k is a value for the protection.... Posted by Mike Lynch [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Certified or Private Seller for 9-5 Wagon?, John Fischer, Thu, 1 Apr 2004 06:26:44 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
If you try an buy an extended warranty for a 9-5 that mimics the Saab CPO warranty you'll discover that the Saab warranty is a bargain. GM Protection plan is almost $3k for the same coverage. Non-affiliated, dealer branded, or internet warranties have a tough time matching the price and the coverage.
Particularly as the warranty only actually costs $1,200 by itself. Likely the dealer spent another $800 bringing the car up to CPO standards so $2k is about right for the real cost of CPO. Saab dealers also get first crack at all the nice off lease and factory cars and CPO standards have title history and service history requirements that private parties and non-Saab dealers don't have to meet. That doesn't guarantee a perfect car, but in another sense it does.
It's fun to put the shoe on the other foot and to be selling a CPO Saab and be at an impasse for price. If you offer to delete the warranty coverage for $1,200 less, nobody has ever taken up that offer.
