The SAAB hitch costs close to half of that $1000, and requires removal of some parts inside the trunk, dropping the back bumper, drilling 4-6 small holes, and re-assembly. It probably takes 2-3 hours to do, unless you've done 2 or 3 of them, and work fast. It's engineered into the back end 'crush-up' scheme for a rear hit, and it's very secure. The back extension that holds the ball comes off and goes inside the spare tire when not needed. It some with a wiring harness which ties to wires provided in the trunk, for brakes. The back-up sensor gets unplugged when the bumper comes down, and the reverse when it goes back. A good mechanic could follow the intructions in the box and do it as well as the dealer, if so inclined, and cheaper. So could you, if you're good with tools. I have no idea what your mechanic will rig up. Might be plenty for the bikes but inadequate for a trailer, should you ever want one. You might consider buying the SAAB hitch, and have that very reasonable local guy install it, IF he promises to follow the instructions and you trust him. One trailer rental when the alternative is renting a truck will pick up the difference. The SAAB hitch will pull 3500 lbs.
