I think there may be some older posts on this....
In any case.. as per other responses, yes they are suppose to be on the weak side in terms of output.. as they are designed to compliment the front soundstage.. However, aside from being weak .. they do seem to be lacking in terms of their dynamics,clarity, etc.. I seem to recall that Boston Acoustics made some decent speakers that fit these openings.. and their were fairly efficient.. so they may be a good bet.. The rear door panels don't have the same air bag sensor issue to deal with as the fronts, so for a do it yourself type, this may be something worth pursuing....
Having said that.. I don't think you'd benefit from this change nearly as much as you would if you replaced the front dash speakers.. as the set up is designed to have most of its sound come from the front soundstage.. so that's where you'd most likely be best served
