Very interesting. I was just wondering about the speedometer in my 2002 9-5 Aero manual. I drove on the highway at the same speed with my cadillac sts and we noted a 5mph discrepancy between the cars.
I drove up to a couple of those radar signs that state how fast you are going down the road and got a 33 while the speedo read 40 and a 21 when the speedo read 25. I have stock tires and wheels
At that point, I timed it out on the mile markers. The odometer was dead on and at 60mph, I averaged 62.5 seconds to complete one mile, indicating that the actual speed was 57.6mph or about a 4$ error. The error did not seem to increase with higher speeds and was also present at 30mph.
Does anybody know if 2.5mph over read is good?
If the over read is intentional, why is it done here in the U.S.?
