AS3 upgrade keeping existing speakers and amp

Hi all,
I want to stick my Pioneer MP3 head unit into my '98 Saab 9-5 (with Prestige AS3 inc Harman Kardon amp).
The output from the aftermarket Pioneer head unit is either RCA or speaker level.
The ISO connectors in the Saab feed the Harman Kardon amp which expects a balanced signal (professional audio).
I can't bypass the amp as the speakers are all odd impedances and I'd need to replace them as well (and I can't afford to do that !).
What I want to do is fit a 4 channel balanced line transmitter (RCA input, Balanced output). This should allow me to send the output of the aftermarket stereo straight to the HK AMP. Simple huh ?
Well, is seems to me that it would work, so why can't I find a single person who's done this before ?!
I'm afraid I've got it all wrong and I don't want to waste money on a line drive/transmitter that's no good.
Has anyone out there done this or heard of it being done ?
Any advice on this would be greatfully received.
Many thanks,
DmC.
