actually, I was attempting humor in my post
I'm not sure what you where attempting with:
"the wick burns in a regular candle, not the wax itself.
If the wax burned, it'd all go up lickety split."
but it comes across as erroneous.
The flame's heat melts the wax, which is drawn up the wick, where the heat vaporizes the liquid wax to a gas, and this gas burns. The process continues. As the wax is burnt away, and the distance required to draw the liquid wax increases, the wick is gradually burnt away.
Ed (you'll have to excuse me, I'm getting psyched up for my Fundamentals of Engineering Licensing Examination in Columbus this Saturday. I've got to remember all of these kind of things.)
