you're stopped at a stop-light after a ^%$# Volvo on a steep incline (the
kind on which you're sure you'll start to slide back as soon as you hit the brakes)
The volvo moves and then I had to gun the engine and lift the clutch
simultaneously (the maneuver all manual transmission owner has had to
perform). The engine roars, the cluth catches and I move up the hill.
Then my nose catches a burning smell. Is it the clutch that's burning?
By the way, I'm now in Ithaca New York facing down my ten year old (and
longer) demons. Boy did I get a face full of nostalgia when I first
drove onto the dreary cloud covered campus all tired from the looonnng
drive. Now, I understand that my long held hatred of this place is
transferance rather than real enmity.
The storm that I ran into when crossing Donner Pass stayed with me the _entire_ trip.
Lynn, sorry I had to cancel. I would have lost this reservation at
Statler hotel for tonight. I was under the storm cloud that moved through
Missouri yesterday. By the way, what's up with Missouri. I saw liquor
store, gun store, "massage" parlour, pawn shop, bail bond store, and
casino on every block. Also, the roads had more pot holes than asphalt.
