Used ones have been advertised in the past for around $100 on auction sites and the like. Big caveat with any used piece of electronics is "How do you know it is still good?" That is why most retailers of electronic parts won't accept returns if the package is opened.

You didn't say how many miles you have on your wagon but I have another idea. Myself and others purchased new units at the lowest price we could find (typically eEuroparts.com), installed the new units on our cars, and carry our original used unit as a spare. Similar to carrying a used full size tire as your spare. This way the unit which should be most resistant to causing a problem is the one being used. Just a thought.
