I heard of this here on the site, and took my 02 to the dealer and they said "not for free"
10k later, I complained again, so 2 mos ago they did a swap for free.
It took about 60 seconds for me to burst in to a huge grin! I agree it's still not like my 944, but the car was so much intimidating to drive...I could EXPECT it to hit the gear FAST, not when it wanted to, but more like when I wanted it to. The result is the car felt more intuitive to drive. I did not have to plan my downshifts...they seemed to just "happen".
does that make sense? I was missing perhaps 2 to 3 shifts in a day's driving (letting the clutch out as I thought it should be in gear by the time the plates contacted, but it wasn't), and now I believe I missed maybe 1 all this week of heavy miles (1600 mi)
I would highly recomend this, but if you do it yourself, realize that the proceedure requires at least one quick flush with the new stuff. The dealer did 2 flushes for mine, but you should check the previous posts for the actual proceedure
