If I were a buyer, it would make very little difference to me choosing between an 03 with 12k miles and an 04 with 9k miles. I'd see both of them about equal since I would get to 50k miles well before the 4 years is up. If you drive 13-14k a year, then you get there in roughly 3 years. If you're seeing prices around 27.5 for same mileage ballpark, then there's your answer as to how to price yours. For some reason, I can't explain why, Kelly's blue book lists retail(dealer) market value about 10-15% higher than a private party sale for the same exact car. Makes no sense to me, since a dealer will not offer you any advantage that I can think of for a car still under warranty. If something goes wrong its Saabs problem either way. Possibly in some states there is no lemon protection in a private sale, whereas, I would think a buyer has full lemon protection if buying used from a dealer in all states. Good luck selling your vehicle!
Just for fun, I would see what a dealer is offering you on a trade-in, you don't pay sales tax on the allowance which can amount to a large sum of money in most states. A Saab dealer who has a lot of cars to move, could be motivated to squeeze out more money on your trade-in to get a new one off the lot. It may surprise you. I was surprised that I could get just slightly less by trading in my 2002 MB than I would have got privately. To me it was well worth taking a 1000 less to avoid all the hassle and you have to factor in advertising expenses as well as depreciation while you hold out for a good price. I spent almost 200 advertising my car right at the Kelly blue book private party retail, and I never got a single call in 4 weeks time so I gave up and gave in. YMMV.
