To wrap up my story about the front turn signal clip that broke and scratched up my hood and fender as result when the entire unit went flopping about on I-95...
Got the car back last night after nearly a week at the dealer. It was at a body shop, where they repainted the bumper, fender and hood! I saw the body shop bill -- $585 to the dealer -- and that doesn't include the cost of the new indicator unit, which had cracked in this entire fiasco.
Add to that three days in an Enterprise rental, and another three days in a dealer '01 9-3 (what a mess of a loaner that was, but it was a 5 speed at least).
As the tech said, this was a very expensive fix to a known issue, and should have been taken care of when I brought the car in for an oil change.
Exactly.
Fortunately the body work -- just paint and blending -- looks great. Can't even tell. And a scratch on the front bumper is now gone -- hooray.
