12v ("cigarette lighter") outlet very tight?

I've got an air pump that plugs into the 12v outlet. In both my front and rear 12v outlet, it's really tough to pull the plug out of the socket. (So tough that I got a lesson on how to re-fasten the rear part of the center console Sun am!) I don't remember this with my old car, but that doesn't mean it wasn't that way. Has anyone else noticed this? (If not, I'll assume it's the air pump. Unfortunately, I don't have anything else to plug-in for comparison.)
