I keep seeing people saying "Saab needs a 4wd car"; and I keep wondering why. Is it just to keep up with the Joneses (Merc, in this case) or is there some practical reason? Note: being able to put 370ft/lbs to the road without wheel spin isn't a practical reason for a family wagon.
Here in the frozen North with severe weather conditions I have never needed 4wd at any time although snow tires are essential. Nor have I wanted to pay for the extra maintenance, higher weight, and lower gas mileage (especially at today's fresh new price of $1.02/L (approx $2.85/US GAL) for premium).
Sure would like to see that Saab 9-5 3.0 TDi wagon. But we can't get good diesel here yet.
