There are 3 types I know:
a) 2.5L V6 build by Opel Germany, strong engine
which has numerous oil leaks and needs special
attention for the timing belts. (I had one in my ex Opel)
b) 3.0L V6 build by Vauxhaul UK, used in some 9000s.
These are quite a bit better then the 2.5L engine and
are the basis for the 3rd type. (no oil leaks)
c) current 3.0L V6 Turbo. The newest V6 engine from SAAB
is a low pressure turbo engine. It by far the best of the
V6 bunch. But it will soon be history as GM is phasing out
the Vauxhaul V6 on which it is based. A new 3.2L engine
replaces the 3.0L V6 in Opel and Vauxhaul cars. I would
not worry about buying a V6 9-5 at all.
The only thing is that the 4 Cyl has more potential for after
market tunning. If you can find a 2nd hand 4Cyl LTP Auto (170Hp)
(2000 model) that is what I would buy, cause there is a SAAB tunning
kit that maintains the warranty and that ups power to 200Hp.
More then you get from a new 4cyl lpt (185hp).
Regards,
Coolknight
