Just finished "hard wiring" my newly purchased 10 GB iPod to my car stereo / multimedia system. Took about 45 minutes in all. It was really easy because I have RCA inputs on the surround sound receiver in my trunk for the TV I have. Here are the supplies that I used.
1x Belkin iPod auto charger / audio adaptor (it charges your iPod plus has a headphone-out jack, and all conveniently sent through the Dock Connector-which means only one cable needs to be connected to the iPod for both power and audio!)
1x Radioshack inline fuse holder (always protect your power-lines!)
1x Radioshack fuse tap (to "steal" power off of a fuse)
1x iPod - of course :)
1x Saab phone cradle (bought off of ebay)
1x Universal swivel-mount cell phone bracket
1x iPod case with swivel mount "nob" (so you can hang it on the mount)
1x Monster Cable 12 ft long RCA cable (to run from my trunk to my dashboard)
1x Monster Cable Y adaptor (headphone to RCA cable)
The following are some pics after the install, feel free to ask me any question!
