My recently acquired 1999 Wagon #72568 has the sliding deckoption. I noticed that the previous owner had left the plastic track trim in place, instead of using the cargo pins. I picked up a set of four of the pins, removed the trim and started using it. Really practical for a forensic engineer like me, continually loading heavy gear in the hold, and it is nice to have a place to sit while I put on my boots.
The drawback - I realized I needed the mat for the rear, and it comes in dimensions to completely cover the hold. To use the deck, I had to carefully cut the mat above the track so that I can still pull out the deck. The two corner remainders sit nicely and protect the carpet. You need to put two cuts in the mat by the handle so you can still lift the handle and pull the deck out or push it in.
The cargo pins are easily to use and very practical, just pick up a set of bungee cords instead of the cargo netand away you go!
