As others have said, you can DIY for much less $$$. You can then ask the dealer to update the ECU with the latest software (should be ~$75). I think the software upgrades is worth it -- especially if you plan to run the car for several more years.

My DIC went this past week, too. CEL came on, then went out after a couple of days and then came on again. Car was running OK, but not quite a smooth as normal.

Dealer took care of the DIC, plugs, ECU software update, new hood badge, & PCV fix. All "free" under the CPO warranty. :-) I saw the bill that goes to Saab for warranty work -- $957. Ouch.

My 9-5 now runs _much_ better, so the DI must have been quietly dying for several months but I had adjusted to it.

Also I had a 9-7x as a loaner!!! Seriously. Well, not quite, but it was a GMC Envoy the mechanics were examining so they won't be too surprised when they have to service the Saab version. In typical GM fashion, the Envoy had a great engine/tranny combo, but too much body shudder and a sad excuse for an interior (poor design, crappy materials). Hope the 9-7x comes out better.

To make the week more interesting, my wife's V70 T5 went into limp home mode on the freeway -- 15mph! She parked it and waited 4 hours for AAA. The drive-by-wire throttle went bezerk. Dealer wanted $1500 to fix. Local independent fixed it for $714. We'd been contemplating replacing the V70... now we will before the next gizmo goes.
