parts that doesn't show signs failure and expect to get compensated for it from the manufacturer.
If the car would be out of warranty and the customer paid for it, they would most likely recommend to replace the shocks in pair.
Shocks are a sticky subject since the do wear together and who knows how long the other one will last.
You can relate back to the timing belt/tensioner issue on the 9-5. The dealer cannot replace the tensioner assembly on all V6s at the free 60K service just because it might fail in the future.
They either have to charge the customer or pick up the tab themself if they can't show wear or noise from it.
