I posted yesterday on how I bought the 02 Aero with 13,400 miles for $21,200. Well here is the entire story. The original owner started out at $25,000, with no arm twisting went to $23K and finally $21,500. I made flight arrangements got there in his state (IN) he had never titled the car, he had kept the original MSO the whole time. Drove the car from 8-02 until present with a previous registration and tag (from a '94 Saab) HUGE risk if he would have ever been stopped by the police. When I got there he had just received a clear title (he faxed a copy to me the day before I left) and he MISPLACED the title. He told me to take the car back to GA (without paying for the car, he offered) and he would send my bank his title or replacement if he couldn't find it and they could send the check to him as he wasn't comfortable with sending me a clear title that was signed by him - I totally agreed I wouldn't do it either. I drove back the Thursday eve before the Memorial Day weekend - during the night (~600miles) as I was driving a improperly reg. car. He did give me a photocopy of his license with authorization to drive the car, but that was actually worthless, since the reg. in the car wasn't valid for the 02 AERO. I got back w/o being stopped. I called the GA State Police about the situation to see if I would be legal to drive as I wanted to take the car on vacation as I suspected if stopped - the car would be impounded and I would be charged. So the car stayed in the garage and I went on vacation. I told him I would need a notorized bill of sale as GA has no sales tax on a used vehicle if sold from one individudal to another, but they somtimes ask for a bill of sale for verification, he sent it to me and when I got back from vacation I went to the bank and they handed me his signed over clear title. They didn't want to be in the middle and left it up to me to send the check. I had a notorized bill of sale saying I had PAID for the car and an endorsed clear title - AT THIS POINT I HAD NOT PAID ONE DIME FOR THE CAR!!! I spoke to my wife and said at this point we have a car for free, she gave me one of those looks of displeasure; ladies and gentlemen - you know exactly what I mean. I told my wife I think it is reasonable since we weren't able to take it on vacation and because I had to drive all night bringing the car back to GA to avoid detection coming into the holiday weekend, that a little compensation was in order so I took $300 off and called him and told him what I was doing, he wasn't happy, but he knew I had the bill of sale and the title so $21,200 was the final price. You may not believe this, but it did happen.
