They're not 'mandatory', as in 'there's a bug and here's the free fix' deal, but there are obviously improvements. Frankly, IMO it's a waste of time to try to figure out what, why, when, where - for the few bucks it costs, I figure just do it. (They only charge labor, BTW)

I think the warranty policy is, if the dealer diagnoses a problem that he thinks a newer version might resolve or at least help in diagnosing, he can get Saab to reimburse the labor, otherwise it's on your nut.

It'd be nice that, like PC software, when you buy the car you get free upgrades no questions asked, for a specific period (warranty?), but alas - all is not always so simple in life.
