NGK coppers (BCRP6ES-11 or 7ES-11, or do a search for discussion) also work but you have to change them pretty often. ($2-3/plug). Copper was OE on 99s, I think Saab went platinum on the whole line around 2000, probably to cut 'cost of ownership' numbers...platinum is for long life (stable gap). I've never seen a good reason coppers cannot be used in any 9-5 4-cyl (I and others run them in Aeros, etc.)

NGK also lists their Iridium plugs as an OE replacement ($7/plug MSRP), I may try those and report back. They're also long-life but NGK doesn't recommend regapping them. BKR7EIX-11 is the code.

Note also on the coppers, NGK has a new designation, the BKR7ES-11, which is the same as the BCPR7ES-11, with an 'ISO' body length. I think they did this for European compliance, it's a real world difference of like 1.5mm on the top half of the plug. That's new this year.

Long story short: yeah, around $55 for OE platinums is by the book.
