You should do perform these same steps regularly to clean/replace and regap your spark plugs. Clean and gap every 10,000 miles, replace every 30,000 miles.
1) On the leftside of the DI (right side while facing the engine, left side while in driver's seat) ther is a wiring harness that plugs into the end of the DI. The connector has a red U-shaped locking clip which holds it in place, the only part of the clip readily visible are tips of the two legs of the U facing the front of the car. Push these legs back into the body of the connector using a screwdriver blade, then on the back side of the connector body pry the locking clip to fully disengage it. It is captive to connector so it won't come out, but it needs to slide rearward 1/2 inch or so.
2) Wiggle the connector body and pull it to the side of the car to remove it.
3) Using a torx driver (see tools in spare tire compartment) remove the 4 screws on the top side of the DI securing it to the valve cover.
4) Pull DI straight up to remove it.
5) Check/clean/replace/gap spark plugs which are now fully exposed.
6) Place dielectric grease on plug bodies and inside of DI spark plug boots. Lower DI back into position on engine, replace four screws.
7) Slip wiring harness connector body into position on DI. Snap locking clip closed (closes easier than it opens).
8) Job done, fingers still clean, only two minutes required (depending on step #5).
