city mileage varies so much; what you are getting is not unreasonable. Every time you idle at a red light, you get 0 mpg. It adds up.

My wife makes similar trips. She rarely drives over 30 mph. I am totally serious. She has weeks where her average speed is 12 mph. Mileage is not so good in this range. Maybe her next car will be a hybrid.

The car does really well on the highway, when you are cruising and not using the turbo much at all. With the car loaded with passengers & cargo, we still get over 30 mpg. Keep the speed down, and the car gets even better fuel economy; I have measured 32 and 34 mpg on long trips, but you need to keep your speed below 65 mph and that is only useful when there is a kid napping in the back seat who needs some extra sleep :)
