Fuel does change often. I heard there are hundreds of formulations. It depends on the time of year and where you live what you get. It can vary from town to town. Dallas TX gets different summer fuel than San Antonio and that is different from Houston. SAAB is designed to run VERY lean. The summer fuel has been a problem for most vehicles with sophisticated emmisions and engine management systems. From what I have read these fuels have a low "Reid Vapor Pressure" I beleives that translates to a low volatilty and high evaporation rate. This means that the fuel sitting in your fuel rail and fuel lines has changed overnight. The fuel in the tank doesn't change as much. The car tries to use the 'bad' fuel and you get stumbling idle, idle flares, and running problems on a cold start. After the cars gets rid of the fuel in the lines, Voila! no more problems. The solution is to let the car finishing stumbling and spitting and then put it in gear and drive nomally. This problem is not limited to SAAB. Most european cars (Porsche in particular) experience this in my area in summer weather. It is like clockwork May to Oct.
I have a Ford Ranger that also gets grumpy on summer fuel.
The manufacturers have a solution "Grin and bear it". No Kidding.
