Had a failure at 29k, out of warranty on age. Cost $2k with labor. I asked the dealer if this was common for Saabs, said it was not. Needless to say I did not believe them and that is how I found this site. Turbo failure is common in a Saab 95.
With regards to synthetic oil - dealer said I should be using synthetic, although the owners manual does not require it. The dealer did not even realize that the owners manual did not require synthetic.
When I first bought the car I asked the dealer if I needed to let it warm up and idle down at the end before turning the car off. They said not - that the 95 turbo was a new generation and was not like the 900 and 9000.
I know there are many that would prescribe to warming up and idling down - however you would think that when you spent $35-$40k for a car you should be able to just drive it. At least thats what my Volvo friends keep reminding me.
Saab does have a problem with the turbo.
