I did the PCV upgrade and have noticed increased oil consumption, but the excessive crankcase pressure before the fixes did the following:
- Caused oil leak at timing chain cover (fix under warranty)
- Oil leak at cylinder head (retorque of head bolts, some of which were at little over 30 ft lbs). Seepage halted
- Rear crankseal then began to leak . Performed PCV fixes many months back and the leak at the crank seal seems to be noticeably less than before.
So between my last oil changes I did have to add a quart, I suspect not all of that quart leaked out of the crankseal, but I cannot be sure.
Whither did the oil go ? Maybe all that blow by and some oil evaporation which previously remained and condensed in the engine is now being sucked back into the intake stream and combusted. This is only speculation on my part, but this I can tell you: a poorly designed crank case venting system is never good for the engine and is a bad reflection on Saab's attention to engineering detail. Can you say SLUDGE buildup ? And yes, I'm still po'd that if your car was out of warranty that Saab would neither supply you the parts to fix the PCV or do the work for you.
Just a theory for you to consider, maybe others here will debunk this.
