If you are planning to keep the balance system intact, the tensioner is one piece I would for sure replace.
I don't know how big of a role the tensioner play in all the failures of the NG900 engine but I suspect it might have something to do with it.
The tensioner is both a ratcheting system and backed up by oil pressure.
It seems that the teeth on the ratchet wear out allowing the piston to back out easily.
When you get it out you can see for yourself. You only need to rotate the piston a fraction to be able to push it in.
If those teeth let go, the tensioner is only backed up by the oil pressure.
Saab OEM water pump comes with the rear housing too. That's one reason for the higher price compared to after market.
