I got this technique from an "experienced" guy on the 900 site:
Simply center the steering wheel, and roll the car a bit to remove the tension in the wheels.
then run a string from the back of the back wheels to the front of the front wheels. You should tape the string to the back in such a way to bring the string in to contact properly with the sidewall.
You can determine toe in at 1mm by watching the string contacts. You may need to adjust the steering wheel slightly, as you can still be in compliance with the steering wheel off center.
This worked wonderful on my 9000, and I avoided having to have an emergency alignment prior to other work needing to be done which would require another alignment. Remember the front track may be wider than the back on any given car, so geometry may be involved.
I got the 9000 within 1mm, and it tracks perfect after 3 fine tunes.
I'll have it Hunter aligned later on, but I'll bet it's close to dead on!!!
