An untightened drain plug seems most plausible explanation for the leak. If overtightened, I'd be worried about damage.
Manual clearly states to replace old washer with a NEW WASHER. But even using the old washer shouldn't cause this kind of leak.
I'd prefer straight out honesty to a "face-saving" ruse (which only makes me think, "oh great, defective parts are par for the course").
Given all the grease stains on the interior, and the second stringers (Toyota) doing the job, all indications point to "human error". I'll be sure to request the A Team for my next oil change! (Toyota/Saab/Subaru dealer)
And the service department will hear about this when I send back their feedback request.
Thanks to all who posted -- as usual, this board is an incredibly useful forum for Saab owners.
