I believe that the turbo reliability problems of the 1980s were remedied many years ago. I have had no turbo problems on any of my SAABs (91, 92, 98, 99, 01).
I would look at the brakes wheels and suspension for evidence of abuse or collision, the body for evidence of collision, the selller's service records to assure frequent oil changes, and the warranty claims history (service manager can look it up using VIN) for evidence of any lemon-like problem specific to the car, and of course a Carfax. If it passed all those tests I would take it to a good indie tech for a thorough going-over. If the car is in the SAAB CPO program you could skip some of that.
Generally a 2001 Aero would have been leased by a responsible adult and driven to and from work and the shopping mall for three years, so it would be unusual to see the kind of wear and tear that you would find on a higher performance econocar.
I would not be surprised if you found some wheel damage, particularly on Klingon wheels. That would be evidence of potholes, probably not abuse. If you have the BBS wheels they are less likely to be bent, but some curb rash is to be expected unless the car had a 100% suburban life.
