I am usually the passenger, and have a slightly biased opinion because I have only driven Saabs (3) for the past 15 years. On the other hand, my husband has only driven Acuras (3) for the same amount of time. The TL is a nice car, the first of three Acuras that I actually like because it has a very tight suspension, but still not as nice as my Aero ;-) We have always taken the Saab on long trips, because of safety, comfort, and versatility. The TL is a good commuter car, with a small trunk, the best Acura seats yet, but still not as comfortable as any Saab. We don't have navigation. As far as rattles, yes, there is a vibration in the upper console in front of the sunroof, it is about as annoying as my cup holder rattle :-(
The TL suspension will feel very different than your '99 9-5. As an example, I think my husband would have liked the '02 Arc (6 cyl, softer ride). He wanted the new TL long before he ever drove one, but I don't think he will ever get used to the tight bumpy ride. He just returned from a 9 hour round trip and reported that the car is fun to drive, but very unforgiving on rough surfaces, including the highway. From experience, the Acura will probaby prove to be a bit more reliable than the Saab, as is true in general when comparing Japanese and European cars.
If you have any questions, feel free to email me.
Good Luck,
AeroLady
