Have had my 99 LPT for about a year now and have done several shorter trips with it, but I just got back from a 1700 mile trip through the rockies and couldn't be happier!! Even with the lowly LPT I could run up and down the mountains with hardly any effort. My brother in law was constantly at red line with his Grand Caravan!! Driving in that van up and down the mountains, pushing it to it's limits, just seems dangerous to me. I'm so happy to have the 9-5. Comfortably navigating the mountains in safety and comfort with no worries about pushing it's limits. That's the way to go.
I did, however, have a couple of questions...
1. At the higher elevations, I would get some surging of the motor when at a stop with the transmission (auto--unfortunately)engaged. If I moved it to neutral, it would go away. It seemed to surge between 500 and 1000 RPM or so. It was quite noticeable. Any ideas of what to do? Isn't a big deal now that I'm back in the low lands (Iowa).
2. When at highway speed and accelerating, I would get a hesitation at about 3000 RPM. If I held it around that mark, it would just kind of surge at or around 3K. Above or below that RPM, there were no problems.
