Can't answer as to whether a 18x9 would fit on the 9-5, but you can get away with 225s on a 9" wide wheel - it's kinda awkward though. You'll have no sidewall protection at all. I'd at least try to go with a "wide" 225 (not all 225s are actually the same treadwidth)
Right now I'm running 225s on a 8.5" wheel, and I really wish I'd gone for 255s. It would have looked nicer (not to mention more rubber is almost always better)
Why go to such a wide wheel if you're considering sticking with 225 tires, though? A 9" wheel is good if you're going to a 275 or something, which would really just be overkill on a car like the aero.
TireRack has info on suggested rim widths under the specs for each tire. If you look you'll see that 225s are typically recommended for 7.5" to 9" wheels. 275s for 9"-11"
